Lemberg Wine Estate is nestled in the beautiful Tulbagh valley surrounded by the Witzenberg and Winterhoek mountains. This renowned wine estate was founded in 1978 by Janey Muller- the first female winemaker in South Africa to own a wine farm.
Lemberg Wine Estate, now owned by Henk du Bruyn, has an array of soil types suited to a wide variety of cultivars, including Hárslevelü, Syrah, Grenache and Viognier. Winemaker Anri Botha, who has a masters cum laude from the University of Stellenbosch, focusses on flavoursome hand-crafted wines: the grapes are picked and sorted by hand before crushing and fermentation.
The grape cultivars at Lemberg are chosen to suit the unique soil and climate of the Tulbagh Valley. Red varieties, including the distinctive South African Pinotage and the Syrah, showcase impressive fruity flavours, minerality and spice. Grenache noir and Pinot noir contribute to renowned blends like the Lemberg Cape Blend and the premium Rhone-style blend, Lemberg Louis (a Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache blend). Additionally, Lemberg Wine Estate produces premium single-variety wines with Grenache noir and Pinot noir, exemplifying the warmer climate and specific soil type, resulting in a spicily ethereal Pinot noir with rich cherry and raspberry notes. While red varietals dominate the collection, Lemberg Wine Estate cultivates white varieties, namely Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Hárslevelü, adding an intriguing selection to their range. Lemberg Wine Estate holds the only motherblock of Hárslevelü in South Africa, a privilege they cherish and honour, by producing award winning wines.
Lemberg Wine Estate is commited to working with nature and has recently been added to the elite list of Carbon Heroes- a sustainability credit that celebrates all B-graded agri-businesses taking part in the Confronting Climate Change Inisiative for their considerable effort in calculation and understanding their carbon emmisions.
