The Catoca Mining Society is one of the most significant contributors to Angola’s diamond industry. It is located in the Lunda-Sul province in eastern Angola. Over the years, it has grown into a major player in the global diamond market, ranking as the third-largest open-pit diamond mine in the world and accounting for 80% of Angola’s rough diamond production.
Catoca currently employs more than 2,000 direct workers and provides around 8,000 indirect jobs, making it a key driver of economic growth in Angola. Beyond mining, Catoca is deeply committed to environmental sustainability and community development.

A key figure in Catoca’s success is Dr. Benedito Paulo Manuel, an accomplished Angolan engineer and leader who completed his degree in Industrial Civil Engineering in 1992 in the Ukrain and obtained a masters in Metallic Structures in 1994. Dr. Manuel’s academic and professional journey includes, Serving as Head of the Civil Engineering Department at UAN in Angola (1996), Earning a PhD in Sciences from the Universal Mining Institute of St. Petersburg (2004), Completing degrees in Business Administration (2006).
He joined Catoca in June 2000 and has held several key positions, including Head of Catoca Academy, Head of Strategic Planning and New Business Department, Advisor to the General Director, Deputy General Director for Social Affairs, General Director and President of the Board of Directors (last five years)
