President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived at the Ncome Museum in the Nquthu Local Municipality, situated within the uMzinyathi District of KwaZulu-Natal, where he was warmly welcomed ahead of the 2025 national commemoration programme. The historic site, rich with meaning and memory, provided a fitting backdrop for the occasion.

Upon arrival, the President was received by the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Thami Ntuli, alongside the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Gayton McKenzie. Their reception marked the start of a programme rooted in reflection, remembrance and a shared national purpose.

This year’s commemoration is being led jointly by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) and the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government under the theme, “Reaffirming Reconciliation for Future Generations.” The theme calls on South Africans to renew their commitment to unity, healing and forgiveness, while continuing the work of nation-building for a shared and inclusive future.

Hosting the 2025 programme at Ncome is deeply symbolic. It reaffirms the country’s resolve to confront its complex history with honesty and respect, while creating space for dialogue, understanding and reconciliation. Through this commemoration, South Africans are invited to reflect on the past, draw lessons from it and collectively advance a future grounded in inclusion, mutual respect and lasting unity.
