President Cyril Ramaphosa today arrived at the Atlantic Beach Golf Club in Melkbosstrand, Western Cape, to take part in the Presidential Golf Challenge.

The President was formally received by the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture and Acting Minister of the Department of Public Service and Administration, Gayton McKenzie together with the Minister of Tourism, Patricia De Lille .

First inaugurated in 1999, the annual Presidential Golf Challenge has become a flagship platform through which the sitting President mobilises support for critical social causes while strengthening collaboration between government, business and civil society across all three spheres of government. The event also provides a unique opportunity for leaders from the public and private sectors to engage meaningfully around shared national priorities, social investment and long-term development partnerships.

The 2026 edition of the Challenge continues this proud legacy by placing a strong focus on improving learning environments and dignity for learners across the country. This year’s event raises funds for the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, with proceeds directed towards the construction of much-needed ablution facilities at public schools through the Adopt-a-School Foundation.

The initiative directly supports the Department of Basic Education’s SAFE (Sanitation Appropriate for Education) Initiative which aims to ensure that learners across South Africa have access to safe, hygienic and dignified sanitation infrastructure as a foundational requirement for quality education.

Beyond its fundraising impact, the Presidential Golf Challenge remains a powerful symbol of collective action, demonstrating how partnerships between government and the private sector can deliver practical, measurable outcomes for communities. Through this year’s campaign, the Challenge reinforces a shared commitment to protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of learners while creating enabling school environments that support attendance learning and long-term educational success.
